Proper Placement of the Pedometer
  • Put the pedometer on the first thing in the morning and wear it all day

  • Put the pedometer on and then reset the steps back to 0

  • At the end of the day, record the number of steps

  • The pedometer should be placed on your waist so that it is over the knee joint or inline with the seam in your pants. To work accurately it must be vertically aligned and parallel to the ground.

    • You can wear it on your underclothes
    • You can attach the pedometer to your belt, slacks or skirt
    • Make sure you attach your security strap to a beltloop, waistband, or belt so you dont lose the pedometer
    • Women may be able to wear it attached to their brassiere as long as it records each step accurately
    • It should not be tilted and should be level
    • You might safety pin the pedometer to your clothing to prevent it from falling off
    • You can wear it on your underclothes
    • Put some identification on the pedometer in case you lose it
    • If your stomach is in the way of the pedometer placement over your knee, try positioning it to the side of your hip to keep it horizontal to the ground and vertically aligned
    • The pedometer cannot measure accurate steps if it is put in your pocket
    • It should not be tilted and should be level
    • You might safety pin the pedometer to your clothing to prevent it from falling off

  • Snap the pedometer case shut to obtain accurate recordings

  • Try out the pedometer to see if it is accurately recording your steps. Walk and count your steps and compare results with the pedometer. If it is not accurate, put the pedometer in a new place and test it out again.

  • Your pedometer will detect and record some movements that aren't really steps, such as getting up from one's chair, shifting one's weight, etc., but over the course of the day, these movement measurements will be insignificant
