Measuring Your Stride Length

Measuring and entering your stride length will provide you with a personalized record of the distance you are walking. Pedometer information can be tracked by steps or by distance. If you cannot compute steps over distance, enter an average stride length: 2.2 feet for women and 2.5 feet for man or you can estimate stride length relative to your height (females: height x .413 equals your stride length; males: height x .415 equals your stride length).

To be more accurate, you are encouraged to measure your own stride length. Just complete the following chart:

Instructions Entry
A. Distance Enter the length of a measured distance in feet. (20 to 100 feet)
B. Steps Enter the number of steps it took you to walk this distance at a normal pace
C. Stride Length Enter your stride length. Divide A by B (Divide distance by steps taken.)
D. How many steps do you take in a mile? Divide 5,280 by C (Divide 5,280 by stride length.)
